Workspace vs Organization

Last updated: April 18, 2025

Brighthive uses two key terms to categorize member accounts: Workspace and Organization.

What is a workspace?

Workspace refers to the environment that users work in and log into. The workspace is typically set up by the organization that holds a Brighthive license, while additional organizations can be added into a workspace. User permissions are not based on organization, and users from multiple organizations can be workspace admins. Learn more about How to Edit Workspace Details here.

Users can belong to multiple workspaces, and are prompted to select a workspace at each login.

What is an organization?

Organizations are an element of each member's profile, and determine where data assets uploaded by a user are stored. Each organization in Brighthive has its own dedicated data stack through AWS, avoiding the risks of multi-tenant data storage for sensitive data assets.

Find details about your organization in the drop down menu in the top-right corner of the workspace. Select "My Organization" to find a description of the organization, fellow organization members, metadata and data sources, and data storage details.

The Brighthive license includes a set a number of organizations for each workspace. Admins can view a full list organizations in the Policies tab within Govern. To add new organizations to your workspace, reach out to support@brighthive.io
