Data Classification

Last updated: April 2, 2025

Brighthive supports several types of classification, including system-defined calcification and user-defined classification. Some of the system-defined classification schemes are automatically implemented upon data/metadata ingestion, and then editable by data asset owners.

Classification Types

  • Personally Identifiable Information (PII)
    • Sensitive PII, nonsensitive PII, no PII
    • PII is automatically classified upon data upload and covers a broad set of PII categories
  • Data Sensitivity Tiers
    • Includes Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3
  • Data Access Classification
    • Includes Private, Restricted, and Shared
    • On the Brighthive platform, data asset managers can classify data assets as private, restricted, or shared upon uploading data
    • Private: Only can be accessed by the data asset manager
    • Restricted: Requires the data asset managers’ consent to use in a project
    • Shared: Can be added to a project by anyone.
  • Custom tags
    • Users can add their own classification scheme for data through custom tags.
